Microalga-Mediated Tertiary Treatment of Municipal Wastewater: Removal of Nutrients and Pathogens

چکیده
The microalgal strain Chlorella sorokiniana isolated from a waste stabilization pond was used for tertiary treatment of municipal wastewater. Three light:dark (L:D) regimes 12:12, 16:8, and 24:0 were treating wastewater in microalga (A), + sludge (A S), (S) reactors. removal nutrients (N P) found to be the highest microalga-based reactor, with more than 80% biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) 1.2–5.6 log unit pathogens. addition improved chemical (COD) removal. Nitrifiers predominant A S reactor. Algal biomass productivity 280 mg/L/d all L:D regimes. increase light regime nutrient algal Results kinetic study showed that (i) nitrifiers had affinity ammonium microalga, hence, most ammonia oxidized nitrate, (ii) assimilated nitrate as primary nitrogen source (iii) solubilization particulate organic originated dead cells reduced efficiency. However, uptake higher uptake. Among pathogens, Salmonella Shigella better reactor other two reactors (microalga reactor). Additionally, heterotrophic plate count drastically presence microalga. No such drastic reduction observed stand-alone Kinetic modeling revealed microalga–pathogen competition pH-induced die-off factors pathogen inactivation.

Optimizing Nutrients Removal from Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants Using Computer Simulation
Advanced wastewater treatments have become an area of global focus for many communities, having in view the new, stricter discharge limits, imposed by the European Union Directives. The aim of this work is to evaluate conditions for a possible implementation of a Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) process in the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) of Targoviste city (Romania). The problems initial...
متن کاملMANAGEMENT of PHOSPHORUS REMOVAL in MUNICIPAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS
As a result of uncontrolled discharge of wastewaters containing high levels of phosphorus to the receiving bodies could create adverse effects on water quality. Therefore phosphorus should be eliminated prior to discharging into aquatic environment together with carbon and nitrogen to reduce eutrophication risk. Control of effluent phosphorus level by enhanced biological methods became a standa...
متن کاملOccurrence and Removal of Macrolides in Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants: A Review
Introduction: Macrolides are a group of antibacterial agents. Given their clinical importance, and the consistent rise in resistance among pathogenic bacteria, macrolides have been the targets of extensive research. Materials and Methods: This review considered the number of macrolides in different wastewater and the removal of these drugs. The antibiotics were frequently detected in influents...
متن کاملApplication of Moving Bed Biofilm Process for Biological Organics and Nutrients Removal from Municipal Wastewater
In this study, experiments have been conducted to evaluate the organics and nutrients removal from synthetic wastewater by a laboratory scale moving bed biofilm process. For nutrients removal, moving bed biofilm process has been applied in series with anaerobic, anoxic and aerobic units in four separate reactors. Moving bed biofilm reactors were operated continuously at different loading rates ...
